Hiii, I’m Young Bald Boss!

I would like to answer the question you are most concerned about this time: “How much did it cost?”

Hair transplantation, the most powerful thinning hair treatment method, is said to be semi-permanently replacing hair once it is done and may have an expensive image.

In this article, as a broke college student, I will tell you how much money I spent on hair transplants, along with the details!

How much did it cost in total?

Total surgical cost

Let me start with a conclusion. The total cost was 1,551,000 yen (≓10,000USD)

It is shown in the photo above, but I will break it down again.

At the time of my surgery, the basic treatment fee of 200,000 yen was waived during a campaign.
Some may still think it is a little expensive, but as far as I can tell, the cost of hair transplant clinics in Japan is the same as anywhere else.

Looking at the above prices, many of you may be thinking, “That’s a bit expensive…” or “I can’t afford it with my current savings.”

I thought so too.

My savings was only about 300,000 yen, not 1.5 million yen.

So I chose to rely on medical loans.

What is a Medical Loan?

What is a Medical Loan?

Have you heard anything about medical loans?

A medical loan is a loan used for medical-related payment purposes.
In cases where the out-of-pocket expenses are high, such as hair removal, plastic surgery, and hair transplant surgery like mine, which are not covered by insurance, a medical loan can be used to reduce the burden by dividing the payment into multiple installments.

There are two types of medical loans: bank-type medical loans provided by banks and credit unions, and consumer credit-type medical loans provided by consumer credit companies affiliated with hospitals and clinics.
Basically, it is okay to assume that the medical loans used by people having hair transplantation surgery are the latter type, consumer credit medical loans.

I initially considered paying by credit card installments, but gave up because the maximum number of installments on my card was only 36.

Procedures for Credit Medical Loans

Medical loans are subject to screening. Compared to bank-based medical loans, which require applying at the bank yourself, have a longer screening time, and the screening itself is more demanding, we felt that consumer credit-based medical loans are very superior in three respects: ease of application, speed of screening, and low hurdles in the screening process

Images of the screening process

Application and Screening Process

➀The clinic will give you an estimate.
②Apply online by entering your personal information. (It took me about 10~15 minutes to complete the application)
③After an hour, the clinic receives the results of the review.
④On the day of the surgery, the credit card company calls to confirm the final cost of the surgery.
⑤Approximately one week after the surgery, you will receive information about the account transfer and register. (Can be done online in about 5 minutes)

In addition, my savings balance at the time of the screening was about 300,000 yen and my income was about 100,000 yen per month, not far short of my surgical expenses, but I was still able to successfully pass the screening!

How much did you end up paying?

In the end, I paid 100,000 yen as a down payment first and then settled on 120 payments of 17,990 yen per month.
Thanks to the medical loan, the payment became much easier.

However, the installment payment fee should not be forgotten here.

In my case, 1,451,000 yen was covered by the loan after deducting 100,000 yen for the down payment. If I pay 120 installments at an effective annual interest rate of 8.5%, I will have to pay approximately 700,000 yen in installment fees, which will total 2,258,772 yen if I pay back the loan as planned.

I honestly thought it was expensive, but this was still a much lower annual interest rate than other consumer credit companies (most of which have annual interest rates in the 10% range), and I was told that I could reduce the fees by paying it off early, so I decided to close my eyes (lol).

I will do my best to pay it off…!
