Hair transplant Dairy

Hi, I am Young Bald Boss!
It has been a week since I had a hair transplant surgery at Island Tower Clinic last week.
Since I posted the article on day 0 the day before yesterday, you may think that only 2 days have passed, but it has already been a week.

I had a hair transplant surgery of 1,500 Grafts at the Island Tower Clinic in Osaka about a week ago on Thursday, August 29, 2024.

In this article, I will detail the changes over the this week!
However, since it would be too long to show you everything at once, I will divide it into the first half (day 2~4) and the second half (day 5~7).
If you want to know the latest developments quickly, please click here to read the second half of the article!

What do you think?
You can see from the pictures that the redness is gradually disappearing.
But other than that, I didn’t notice any other changes myself.
It’s only the 4th day….

Next, I will tell you about the medications I took for the past three days!

Introduction and dosage of medications

Type and effect of drugs I used

On the day of my surgery at the clinic, I was prescribed two medications, Cravit tablets 500 mg and Kalonal 500 mg.
In total, I was taking three medications, including Duman 0.5 mg, which I had ordered from a private importer and had been taking since around one month before. The descriptions of the medications below are taken from the accompanying manuals and other sources.
*Be sure to consult with your physician before use!

Cravit Tablet 500 mg (antibiotic)

It is a medicine that kills bacteria. Used for inflammation caused by bacterial infection. Prevents secondary infections from surgery.
■Side effect
Hypersensitivity symptoms such as rash may occur. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as loss of appetite and nausea may occur.
■Usage and Precautions
1 tablet once a day after breakfast
To maintain the concentration of the antibiotic in the blood, it should be taken at regular intervals as much as possible.

Kalonal 500 mg (anti-inflammatory and analgesic)

It removes swelling caused by inflammation and relieves pain. It is especially effective for pain. It also suppresses fever.
■Side effect
This medication is generally considered to have few side effects. Abdominal pain and stomach discomfort may occur. May affect liver values. Acetaminophen-based medications.
■Usage and Precautions
Abortive medication 1 tablet 3 times/day (at least 6 hours apart)
To avoid upsetting the stomach as much as possible, take it after meals.

Duman 0.5 mg (male pattern baldness treatment)

It contains the same active ingredient, dutasteride, as Zagallo capsules. It is a medication that prevents hair thinning in men with male pattern baldness (Androgenetic Alopecia).
■Side effect
Sexual dysfunction (decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, ejaculation problems)
Liver dysfunction, jaundice, and other symptoms may occur.
■Usage and Precautions
The usual oral dosage for male adults is 0.1 mg (0.2 tablets) of dutasteride once daily. If necessary, 0.5 mg (1 tablet) may be orally administered once daily.

The clinic told me that I should definitely finish taking the 500 mg Cravit tablet (antibiotic) and that I should take the 500 mg Kalonal (anti-inflammatory and painkiller) if I had any pain.
So I swallowed all the Cravit 500 mg tablets and only took one Kalonal 500 mg the morning after the surgery.
As for Duman 0.5 mg, I take one tablet every night before going to bed.

Progress Details

Day 2: Symptoms and main events

Symptoms

No pain, but some bleeding after washing hair.
Slight itching (not unbearable) at the hair transplant site.

Main events

On the second day after the surgery, I had my first morning in my own bed.
Then a “small incident” occurred.

Around 6:00 AM, I woke up suddenly.
While feeling sleepy, I felt an itch on the hair transplant area and almost unconsciously scratched it…!
The next moment, I woke up with a start in despair, “Oh no, I scratched it…!” I woke up at once in the midst of despair.

I check in the mirror, but I am not sure. I don’t think I am scratching too hard, so I don’t think there is a problem…

I thought that the itching would continue, or possibly get worse, in the future, and I had to do something about it through trial and error.
Here are the measure I came up with!

I taped my arms to the bed with vinyl tape so they couldn’t touch my head ✨
Good idea… (-. -)
This saved me from the fear of scratching the hair transplant area while sleeping!

Day 3: Symptoms and main events

Symptoms

There was no pain in the hair transplant area, but there was more hair sheet discomfort at bedtime.
Itching is still the same as yesterday. Redness was a little better.
My back was ridiculously painful when I woke up from sleep.

Main events

By tying my arms to the bed with the vinyl tape, I was well protected against scratching. I had a good night’s sleep, but when I woke up, I felt a surprising amount of pain in my lower back.

The man who hurt his back.

Apparently, my lower back was stiffened because I was so concerned about the implanted area that I was sleeping stiffly on my back without turning over or even moving at all…
I couldn’t even walk normally, and the pain finally eased by applying a compress.

Day 4: Symptoms and main events

Symptoms

No pain in the hair transplant area. Hair sheet attachment area is uncomfortable at bedtime.
Itching is slightly better.
Back pain is better now that I have learned how to sleep.

Main events

I was able to spend the day without any problems!
As for the back pain issue, I avoided sleeping in the same position by leaning back slightly and placing a cushion between my hips, and the pain in my back was much better!

How to care for your hair after hair transplantation

When washing hair

You can wash your hair from the day after hair transplant surgery.
At first I thought “No way! Should I wash?” but I heard that you must wash your hair to prevent the growth of bacteria and to maintain the scalp environment (^_^)

Having said that, if you scrub as usual, the hair you have planted will fall out, so you must take care of it as per the instructions in the above photo given to you at the clinic.
The following is a summary of the points I took care of!

【Points I paid attention to when washing and drying my hair】
・Do not pour hot water directly on the implant.
・Do not shampoo directly. (Only pour shampoo solution lathering up on other parts of the body.)
・After washing hair, press it gently with a towel. (Do not rub the grafted area.)
・Do not use a hair dryer on the grafted area. (Drying naturally.)
・Do not rub the graft with a brush or comb.
・Do not pull the graft with a hair iron.

Care after hair transplantation may vary depending on the clinic, the procedure, and the individual, so be sure to discuss the proper care for yourself with the clinic staff and follow their instructions!

Summary

Reflecting on the past three days

They say that the first couple of days after hair transplant surgery are the most important period for the hair follicles to settle in. Therefore, I was really upset when I scratched myself on the morning of the second day. I was also worried that I might suddenly fall and hit my head, damaging the transplanted area, or that my family members might suddenly touch or scratch me in some way when passing by.

I did my best to stay in my room when I had nothing to do, wait until my family had finished using the bathroom, and avoid passing by the door when someone was in the bathroom.

However, I am still only three days away from the completion of the hair transplant.
I have felt somewhat stressed during these three days, but if I continue like this, I may not have the mental capacity for the care that will continue for about a year until the completion of the hair transplant.
From now on, I will try to relax and live a little more relaxed.

Thank you very much for reading to the end! ☺
